Access Statement
Introduction
Grove House is an historic bed and breakfast built in 1757 and is located in Grove Square in the market town of Leyburn, North Yorkshire . None of the rooms or public areas are accessible by wheelchair.
Five guest rooms are on the first floor and are accessed by two staircases both with banisters. These rooms offer a mix of double and family accommodation. Three have a shower en suite and two have a bath/shower en suite.
A sixth room is on the ground floor and although suitable for guests with limited mobility, it has limited space and is not suitable for wheelchair access. It has a shower en suite.
A seventh room is located on the second floor, and is accessed by a staircase with a banister. It has a bath/shower en suite.
The approach to the front of the house from Grove Square has one step up from the front pavement. From then all ground floor facilities are on level ground.
The approach from the rear private car park is flat to the side entrance, and once inside the guest door, there are two steps down to ground floor level, accessing the dining room, lounge and ground floor bedroom.
Public Areas
From the front door entrance, you enter immediately into the lounge area with the dining room to the right. This leads through a door into the hallway and stairs.
The hallway leads to the ground floor guest bedroom, front and back stairways leading to first floor and second floor guest rooms.
From the hallway there two carpeted stairways with banisters.
On the front stairway there are three steps to a semi landing followed by eight steps to the first floor bedrooms. There are a further six steps to the second floor room.
On the back stairway there are three steps immediately through the fire door entrance, followed by fourteen steps with a banister to the first floor guest room, and then a further three steps without a banister to the second guest bedroom.
Bedrooms
Coverdale
Is on the ground floor and is accessed from the guest side door by going down two steps, or from the lounge and dining room on the same level.
Has a double bed (4ft 6in) with access from both sides.
Has a shower en suite.
Wharfedale
Is on the second floor accessed from the front stairway by twenty steps in total.
Has a Double bed (4ft 6in) with access both sides, and a further Two Single beds (3ft) one with access from one side the other single from both sides.
Has a bath/shower en suite.
Bishopdale
Is on the first floor accessed from the rear stairway by fourteen steps plus a further three steps without a hand rail.
Has a Double bed (4ft 6in) with access from both sides.
Has a bath/shower en suite.
Cotterdale
Is on the first floor accessed from the rear stairway by fourteen steps.
Has a Double bed (4ft 6in) with access from both sides.
Has a shower en suite.
Swaledale
Is on the first floor accessed from the landing using the front stairway.
Has a Super King size bed (6ft) with access from either sides, or Twin beds.
Has a feature fireplace (not used).
Has a shower en suite
Wensleydale
Is on the first floor accessed from the landing using the front stairway.
Has a King Size bed (4ft) with access from both sides.
Has a feature fireplace (not used).
Has a shower en suite.
Widdale
Is on the first floor accessed from the landing using the front stairway.
Has a Super King size bed (6ft) with access from either sides, or Twin beds.
Has a private bath/shower en suite.
Outside Areas
A large private car park at the rear of Grove House with a stoned gravel surface.
Access to the private car park is via a private lane to the right hand side of the building.
A lawned garden area is at the front of the building with a central pathway leading to the main door. There are tables and chairs for use by guests.
Additional Information
There are fire extinguishers located on all hallways and landings.
Grove House is protected by a fire alarm system, with smoke detectors in every room. Please make us aware of any hearing impairments.
The fire exit is through the front door or guest side door.
For guests in the Wharfedale room there is a fire exit through the room.
It is against the law to smoke anywhere inside the guest house.
Mobile reception can be limited in the Dales, depending upon your network.
